- Master critical care pharmacology and vasopressor management
- Understand critical care infectious disease and antibiotic management
- Gain exposure to and understanding of mechanical support devices
- Learn the interaction between palliative medicine and critical care
Obtain the following practical skills
- Central line placement
- Arterial line placement
- Midline placement
- Chest tube insertion
- First assisting in the operating room
- Bronchoscopy
- Bedside tracheostomy and PEG tube placement
- Laceration repair and complex wound care
- Chest x-ray and body CT imaging interpretation
Incremental goals
- Months 1-3

- Orient to the trauma and critical care services
- Complete Advanced Trauma Life Support
- Master the primary and secondary trauma survey
- Complete FCCS
- Participate in team based care with increasing responsibility
- Months 4-6

- Anticipate the needs of the acutely injured patient as an integral team member
- Care for a panel of critically ill patients with support of an experienced clinician
- Develop procedural skills
- Months 7-9

- Function as a team leader in the trauma bay
- Participate in overnight call including trauma and critical care admissions
