Curriculum

The George Washington University Hospital Trauma & Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Residency Program includes 12 months of clinical experiences paired with didactic curriculum and teaching from program faculty as well as certification courses including ATLS, FCCS, ENLS, and ECMO. The advanced practice residents participate in structured rotations in the following areas:

  • Medical ICU
  • Surgical ICU
  • Neuro Trauma ICU
  • Cardiac ICU
  • Trauma Surgery
  • Nephrology/Hepatology
  • Acute Pain Service
  • Palliative Care
  • Infectious Disease
  • Wound Care & Nutrition

Clinical rotations involve increasing autonomy and patient acuity throughout the year with mentorship from experienced APPs, procedural training, and academic activities including journal clubs, peer reviews, and research. Graduates from our program have gone on to work in multiple critical care specialties and trauma teams. The George Washington University is a level one trauma center in the heart of the nation's capitol and cares for a diverse patient population. Advanced Practice Providers are an integral part of the medical staff, working across 29 service lines and are supported by a department of advanced practice. The APP residents are fully credentialed members of the medical staff and receive a yearly stipend, employee benefits including health insurance, a parking and cell phone stipend, PTO, 5 CME days, and an education allowance.

Conferences

  • The APP resident will be provided a fixed amount of reimbursement to attend a conference approved by the program directors. Examples of appropriate conferences include EAST and SCCM.
