Leadership in Acute Care Surgery

Dr. Babak Sarani is the past Chair of the Washington, DC Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons and Dr. Megan Quintana is one of the vice-chairs. Dr. Sarani serves on the National Committee on Trauma (COT) and is an active reviewer for the Verification Review Committee (VRC) of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. He is also the Vice Chair of the COT Performance Improvement Committee, which oversees the publication of national Best Practice Guidelines for trauma care and the trauma protocols repository.

Dr. Sarani is also co-chair of the Northern Virginia EMS Council with primary responsibility for coordinating trauma care in the Northern Virginia Area. Dr. Sarani is the Secretary for the Surgical Critical Care Program Directors Society, is a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Trauma Society, and is a past Board Member of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma. 

Dr. Megan Quintana is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Trauma Society. Dr. Megan Quintana is the Subcommittee Vice Chair for Communication and Education for the AAST’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Dr. Susan Kartiko is the past Chair of the Publications Committee of the Chest Wall Injury Society and is the past guest editor of the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery special issue on chest wall injury.
