Biography

Swapna Chaudhuri, MD, PhD is a board-certified anesthesiologist with subspecialty certification in pediatric anesthesiology. Her expertise extends to various areas, including obstetric, neurosurgical, and off-site anesthesia, as well as trauma anesthesia and burns. Dr. Chaudhuri is also passionate about anesthesiology education and faculty development.

Dr. Chaudhuri began her medical journey in India, where she completed her medical degree. She then moved to Toledo, Ohio, earning a PhD in Medical Sciences and completing her residency training in Anesthesiology at the same institution. In 1993, she relocated to Texas to join the Department of Anesthesiology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in El Paso. Over her 16-year tenure there, she served as the Residency Program Director and Regional Chair of Anesthesiology, as well as in various leadership roles, including Chair of the Faculty Executive Committee and Medical Practice Committee, and Chief of Medical Staff at the teaching hospital.

From 2009 to 2011, Dr. Chaudhuri continued her academic practice as a Professor of Anesthesiology at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. However, she returned to Texas and TTUHSC-Lubbock, where she spent 13 years as a Tenured Professor and Executive Vice Chair, also serving as the Medical Director for Anesthesia Services at University Medical Center, the primary teaching hospital in Lubbock.

In addition to her clinical and administrative roles, Dr. Chaudhuri has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. She is a long-standing member of the Society for Education in Anesthesia (SEA) and actively participates on review panels for the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS). She has also pursued postgraduate education towards a Master’s degree in Medical Education, significantly contributing to residency education and faculty mentoring at TTUHSC.
