Deyanira (Dee) Prastein, MD, is a heart surgeon. She is board certified in Thoracic Surgery and is an assistant professor at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. She specializes in adult cardiac surgery with a special interest in advanced heart failure surgical therapies (LVADs) and structural heart disease. After her General Surgery training at the University of Maryland, she completed her Thoracic Surgery training at Wake Forest School of Medicine and pursued further specialization in thoracic transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at the University of Cambridge Royal Papworth Hospital and at Duke University Medical Center. Prior to joining GW hospital, Dr. Prastein served as the surgical director of the Advanced Valvular and Structural Heart Disease Program at the Sands-Constellation Heart Institute in Rochester, NY.
