Biography

Jordan Carolina Villa Martinez, MD is an Assistant Professor of Adult Reconstruction Surgery in the Orthopaedic Surgery Division at the George Washington University. Dr. Villa specializes in treating people with hip and knee conditions with a focus on individualized patient care. Her expertise includes degenerative joint disease requiring primary total joint replacement and existing joint pathology requiring

revision surgery. Dr. Villa has extensive training in the most recent technology for joint replacement surgery, including computer navigation with Intellijoint Surgical and robotic-assisted surgery on state-of-the-art platforms including MAKO, CORI, and ROSA robots.

Dr. Villa’s interest includes primary, minimally invasive total hip and knee replacement, robotic and navigated joint replacement surgery, partial knee replacement, revision joint replacement surgery, periprosthetic fracture, and periprosthetic joint infection. Other areas of focus include the treatment of developmental hip dysplasia, avascular necrosis, posttraumatic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

At the heart of Dr. Villa's practice lies a belief in individualized patient care. Her approach emphasizes the restoration of function, early mobilization, multi-modal pain control, interdisciplinary care, and open communication.

Graduating as valedictorian with multiple academic honors from medical school, Dr. Villa embarked on a remarkable career of learning and mentorship under the guidance of internationally recognized orthopaedic surgeons. Dr. Villa’s journey began as a Research Fellow at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City, NY, where she conducted pioneering research to advance the field of Orthopaedic Surgery. Following her tenure at HSS, Dr. Villa pursued a year of General Surgery Residency at the renowned New York Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia University in New York. This was followed by Orthopaedic Surgery training at Howard University Hospital.

To refine her expertise, Dr. Villa completed a coveted Fellowship in complex adult reconstruction and total joint replacement at NYU Langone Orthopaedic Hospital (NYU Grossman School of Medicine), recently ranked by US NEWS as one of the nation's top orthopaedic institutions. Additionally, Dr. Villa's commitment to excellence and leadership in her profession was further exemplified when she was selected to participate in the prestigious 2022 Feagin Leader program at Duke University—a testament to her dedication and leadership in the medical community.

Dr. Villa has published numerous original research articles in peer-reviewed journals, authored book chapters and has presented at numerous conferences in the US and internationally, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) 2023 annual meeting. Moreover, during her fellowship at NYU Langone, Dr. Villa received recognition for the best research project for her work on periprosthetic joint infection.

Dr. Villa is an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Additionally, she serves as the Chair of the Membership Committee for the American Association of Latino Orthopaedic Surgeons (AALOS).
