Biography

Joey Bahng, MD (pronouns: they/them/their) 

Dr. Bahng joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The GW Medical Faculty Associates in September 2022. They are working at the GW Hospital in labor & delivery and at the Pennsylvania Avenue and M Street ambulatory clinics.  

Joey has a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Systems and Society with Honors from New York University in New York, NY (2013). They then completed an intensive pre-medical post-baccalaureate program at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD (2014). They graduated from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA with their Medical Degree (2018). They completed their residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Emory University/Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA (2022). While at Emory, they were awarded the university’s Transgender Advocate of the Year (2019), Most Outstanding Resident in General Obstetrics and Gynecology (SASGOG, 2021), Master Colposcopist (2022), and Best Resident Research Day Project (2022). During their final year of residency, they were selected by the department and their peers to serve as Chief Administrative Resident (2021-2022). 

Joey’s professional interests include resident/medical student education and gender-affirming care. They spent elective time during residency working with medical and reproductive endocrinologists to hone their skills in providing gender-affirming hormonal and surgical care to patients of all genders. Joey will be working with the GW Medical Faculty Associates to establish a gender-affirming medical and surgical service based out of the M Street clinic.
