Sharad Goyal, MD, is Director of the Division of Radiation Oncology, and Professor of Radiology at The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates.
A native of Annandale, Virginia, Dr. Goyal earned his Bachelor's, Master's, and Medical Degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio and his residency in Radiation Oncology at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in New Brunswick, New Jersey. After completion of his residency, Dr. Goyal served as an Instructor and Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology before being promoted to Associate Professor and Director of Clinical and Translational research at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
An active clinical trialist and researcher, Dr. Goyal's medical research focuses on improving the quality of care received by cancer patients, both by advancing the ways in which cancer is treated with radiation and by integrating data from epidemiological settings in cardiology and oncology to better inform treatment and survivorship issues among cardiology and cancer patients. He has also optimized the use of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), and proton beam therapy (PBT) in the management of cancer patients.
Dr. Goyal has published over 100 manuscripts and a dozen book chapters, including seminal publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Clinical Oncology, International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics and Cancer. He has received numerous grants, including funding from the American Lung Association and the Radiological Society of North America. He is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Radiation Oncology and the Radiological Society of North America and has developed a strong reputation within the radiation oncology community, serving on national committees and multiple editorial boards. He was voted as Educator of the Year in 2014 by the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology.
Dr. Goyal is board certified in Radiation oncology. He is licensed in the District of Columbia, Virginia and New Jersey.
