Biography

Gabriel Prada-Aguilera, MD is an anesthesiologist at The GW Medical Faculty Associates and assistant professor of anesthesiology at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He primarily works at the GW Hospital in settings of general anesthesia as well as cardiothoracic anesthesia.  

Dr. Prada graduated from medical school at Universidad ICESI, Cali, Colombia where he was awarded a scholarship for academic excellence. He then worked at Mayo Clinic as a Research Fellow for the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, where he was formally trained in basic transthoracic echocardiography and lung ultrasound. Dr. Prada then completed his Residency in Anesthesiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he later served as Chief Resident. He then completed his Fellowship in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at the University of Chicago. Since the beginning of his training, Dr. Prada has been actively engaged in academic projects about echocardiography and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) which has resulted in multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, including 2 educational videos of echocardiography for the New England Journal of Medicine; he also has developed multiple curriculums for POCUS training courses, an online ultrasound learning platform for trainees, an educational website (www.TheICUDoc.com) of video tutorials of POCUS which is featured on www.OpenAnesthesia.org, and has worked as an instructor and lecturer in multiple POCUS workshops across the country.

Dr. Prada’s interests are focused on echocardiography, point-of-care ultrasound, and medical education. He is passionate about traveling the world and art, especially music and literature. His native language is Spanish.
