Adam Thompson-Harvey, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is dual-trained in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Otology/Neurotology, with expertise in the medical and surgical treatment of hearing and balance (vestibular) disorders and skull base tumors. He earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University before returning to his hometown to pursue medical education at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Thompson-Harvey completed his Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He received further advanced training at the University of Virginia, where he completed a two-year fellowship in Otology, Neurotology, and Lateral Skull Base Surgery. Additionally, he was inducted to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, recognizing his exceptional academic achievements and commitment to medicine.
Dr. Thompson-Harvey is passionate about academic medicine and committed to advancing the field of otolaryngology through clinical practice and research. His clinical expertise encompasses the full spectrum of otologic/neurotologic conditions, including inflammatory and neoplastic disorders of the temporal bone, CSF otorrhea, facial nerve disorders, vestibular and balance disorders, and all forms of hearing loss and tinnitus in adults and children. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Thompson-Harvey’s research focuses on innovative vestibular function testing applications, including modern technology to better assess and treat patients with balance disorders. He is also investigating noncognitive factors that influence performance and well-being among graduate and undergraduate medical trainees, seeking to improve future medical specialists' educational experience and professional development. He has published numerous scientific articles and book chapters. He has served on several national committees devoted to advancing his specialty and academic medicine at large, including the Board of Directors of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
He firmly believes that his patients are the most important members of the healthcare team, as they assume all the risks. He works to ensure his patients have all the information they need to make the most informed choices about their care.
In his free time, Dr. Thompson-Harvey enjoys spending time with his wife Alex (a pediatric neurologist at Children’s National Hospital), playing tennis, DJ-ing, snowboarding, kayaking, and traveling.
