This study seeks to provide early proof-of-concept that experimental infection with Trichuris trichiura (whipworm), is feasible and safe by enrolling healthy, whipworm naive adults and challenging them with escalating doses of whipworm eggs. The goal of the study is to determine the optimal dose (i.e. number of whipworm eggs) that is safe, well-tolerated and results in consistent infection. Participants will have 16 visits over 6-8 months and be treated for any whipworm infection that occurs before exiting the study.
The GW Vaccine Research Unit is seeking volunteers ages 18-45 years old and are in generally good health.
Compensation is provided for time and travel.
