Biography

Maria Chaudhry, MD is a board certified hematologist/oncologist specializing in treating patients with plasma cell dyscrasias, multiple myeloma, amyloidosis and other blood cancers. She also performs autologous stem cell transplants and cell therapies for hematological malignancies. Dr. Chaudhry received her medical training at the King Edward Medical College and completed her residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Dr. Chaudhry also completed hematology/oncology fellowships at both Medstar Washington Hospital Center and MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Prior to joining the George Washington Cancer Center (GWCC), Dr. Chaudhry worked at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center where her clinical focus was multiple myeloma. She was principal investigator in clinical trials at the OSUCC that are investigating several novel therapies with unique mechanisms of actions including immunotherapies, immunotoxins and small molecules. She has presented her research at the American Society of Hematology Conference. At the GWCC, she serves as a clinical investigator and collaborates with laboratory scientists to develop novel therapies for multiple myeloma. Dr. Chaudhry's research focuses on immune cell subsets that provide a permissive microenvironment for cancer evolution and progression. She is now working to develop therapies that can target myelomas at an early stage in hopes of curing this disease. Dr. Chaudhry has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has presented her research at numerous national conferences. She also serves on multiple national committees and is a member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

The GWCC is a major academic center in the Washington, DC area its strength is not only the multidisciplinary care that we provide for our patients but also the clinical and translational research that gives us the opportunity to offer cutting-edge treatment plans and newer therapies before they become standard in the community. Together with the rest of the GWCC team, Dr. Chaudhry provides personalized care to each patient to ensure better outcomes and is honored to be a part of this medical and academic community working toward a cancer-free world.
